Sumbatan Lumpur Akibatkan Pompa Underpass Matraman Tidak Beroperasi Maksimal

Mud Causes Matraman Underpass Pump Not Operating Optimally

The Central Jakarta Bina Marga Agency has confirmed that they have repaired the pump at the Matraman Underpass.

This is not due to damage but rather a pump clogged with mud

Of course, this can prevent underpasses from being flooded like last Saturday (2/8).

Central Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency Head, Muhammad Sholeh said the flood in the Matraman Underpass was triggered by heavy rain and the pump condition was unoptimal. Therefore, on Saturday (2/8), they quickly deployed a technical team to conduct an inspection.

"This is not due to damage but rather a pump clogged with mud," he stated, Monday (2/10).

He explained the Matraman Underpass is equipped with three pump units to manage the water influx into the underpass area. Each pump has the capacity to suck up to 130 liters of water per second.

When conditions were normal, the pump would be able to handle the water flow from rainfall without triggering flooding. He cited, during the heavy rain at the end of January, several areas in Jakarta were flooded, but the Matraman Undepass continued to operate normally.

He assessed the mud caused the pump's operation to be hindered due to a blockage in the pump inlet area. The authorities suspect that the blockage was a result of heavy rain at the end of January.

During the pump repair last Saturday, traffic in the Underpass Matraman area was temporarily closed. Traffic was only reopened after the repair was completed in the evening.

"Thus far, we ensure that three pumps are operating normally and the heavy rain won't cause flooding like last Saturday," he said.
